Last Week

Last Sunday afternoon Mike and I were doing a jigsaw puzzle

that we started with our grandkids, but did not finish.

 

The Hermana's came home for dinner for about an hour.

After they ate, they came in to see how we were doing.

They put some pieces together for us. 

 

 

 We found out that they were experts at jigsaw puzzles!

The above picture was taken at dinner time.

 

When they came back home around 9:30 p.m.

they found us still working on the puzzle. When they were finished

with their work for the day, they came in to see if they could help us.

The Hermana's were really much faster at

finding correct combinations of puzzle pieces then we were.
Their hands moved like lightning!  

 

 The next day (on P-day) they finished it up!

 

 They enjoyed their work!

 

 The puzzle is still setting on the table a week later.

 

I caught Hermana ReeKay studying while eating breakfast

one morning, so I snapped her picture.

The Hermana's are working hard!
They are knocking on a lot of doors in this 100 degree heat.

Hot Missionaries

 Hermana Catfish played a smorgasbord of hymns this morning

while Hermana ReeKay was finishing getting ready for the day.  

 

 I love music, so this was a great treat for me!

 

 Hermana ReeKay finished all too soon.

I could have listened to the piano for hours.

 

 One of my aunts in Washington was baptized yesterday.

Our family made her cards. Since the Hermana's are

part of the family, I asked them to sign the card.

My aunt is 75 years old.  It is never too late to be baptized.

This was a red letter day for our family!

 

 The Sisters are headed out to the library.

Then they will go shopping.

The Sisters have been so hot lately that last week
Mike suggested they go to the grocery store
so they could talk to people where it is cool.
They went to a nearby Fiesta store,

which has a lot of Mexican food products and kind of caters

to Hispanic taste. While they walked along with food in their basket
they were approached by an undercover police officer
who told them they didn't allow missionary work
in the grocery store. They were asked to leave. Oh my.

I know other missionaries have done this in the past.

They didn't know it was against the store rules.
They left immediately.

 

 The Sisters will also go to the church to play volleyball and basketball.

P-day is their day off (until 5 p.m.)

....and they always, always make the best of it.

 

I asked them if they were embarrassed about being asked to

leave the grocery store. They said, no.

Such is the life of a "hot missionary."

Your Delightful Daughters

 The weather was a little cooler for the Sisters

this week. They seemed a little more spirited.

 

 One night they stopped by Sonic on the way home.

Sister Cat Fish says they love Sonic in their family.

 

 Today they were given permission to do a batch

of Indexing for the big church-wide push to go over

the current record. The church is hoping to top 50,000

indexers submitting in a 24 hour period.

 

Apparently all 50,000 people are attempting to submit

their batches at once. The Sisters were unable to even

pull up a batch to index, but they had fun waiting.... 

 

 We took a few pictures.

 

They were in a crazy mood!

Obstacles

 

 The Hermanas have been having a lot of obstacles lately.

Tonight, it was rain.  A random storm popped up

about 10 minutes before they came in for the night.

They were drenched to the gills!

 

They are having exchanges today, so Sister Catfish is in another area.

She will return tomorrow. I'm sorry that I have not posted in the past

two weeks. One of my daughters had a baby on July 2 and I have

been doing Grandma Duty, helping her during the day.  I have been

home at night, but the Sisters have not been very talkative. It has been hot

and they are tired and ready to plan, so they head straight to their room.

They have had to knock on a lot of doors lately

and have not taught as many lessons as they would like.

Being a missionary is not a cushy job.



The Exiles Have Returned

 On June 14 our lovely Hermana's were exiled.

They packed, not everything, but many things up.... 

 

 and loaded them in their car.

They were on their way to stay with some English speaking

Sister missionaries in another ward.

 

 I noticed that Sister Catfish was covered in mosquito bites.

These Sisters are working hard and they are in the

part of the world filled with bugs and heat.

She is now using mosquito repellant.

 

 The reason the Hermanas were exiled was because our daughter,

her husband, and their 6 children needed a place to sleep.

When The Church asked us if we could house the missionaries

we told them that 2-3 weeks out of the year we needed

that bedroom when our Kentucky grandchildren came to visit.

They told us it would be okay....that they would find the missionaries

a place to stay during that time.

 

That time arrived on June 14.  They were gone for 2 weeks.

This is our family on Father's Day when everyone got together.

(everyone but me....I was taking the picture).

 

 

 Goodbye dear Sisters......We will miss you!

 

 

 They dropped by the house from time to time....

 

They HAD to check for mail......

 

 These are the grandchildren that were sleeping

in their bedrooms (well, some of them).
That is me...the maker of this blog, sitting with them.

 

 

The Sisters arrived home this morning (P-day).

They put their laundry on to wash (snap-snap),

they studied, then they headed out to do their

shopping, play sports, and every other P-day type activity.

The Beat Goes On....

It is hard to post pictures of the Sisters these days

because I rarely see them....

 

 Last week the Hermana's went on exchanges.

Sister ReeKay left for 24 hours and Sister Cross came here.

 

 They had a good day together.

I don't remember the details.

It has been too long since I took these pictures.

 

 

 I usually find Sister Catfish doing her studies in the kitchen

in the mornings. She can't get used to my

camera habits, so she is giggling because she knows

I am going to take her picture.

 

 I told her I wanted a natural pose.

There, that's better.

That is what I usually see.....

 

Tonight when the Hermana's came home

I said, "STOP!"  I need to take your picture for the blog.

So, here you go--a picture of them looking hot and tired

after a long day of missionary work in Texas.

I quizzed them about their day..... 

They told me they did their service today.

That involved calling Spanish speaking people on the

phone to give them details about a summer lunch program

in the community.

They said that while they were doing that, they made

one call that wasn't on the list. They "pranked"

the English speaking Elders by calling them... 

pretending they wanted a missionary lesson

(Sister ReeKay was speaking to them in Spanish!).

They got a laugh out of the Elders confusion. 

Then they knocked on some doors.

They said they were happy to teach five lessons today.

They said they got some free nachos when they went to teach

one lesson and instead found the people having a

Mary Kay party.  They rescheduled the lesson for another

time, but enjoyed the nachos they got as they left.

The Sisters are now well acquainted.

They seem to be getting along great.

Summer is here.

They said, "It was hot today, but not too bad." 

They are keeping their spirits up and working hard.



Monday and Tuesday at Home

 Sister Catfish doing laundry on P-Day.

 

 After doing laundry the Hermanas did their shopping,

went to the library to do email, played sports at the church,

and taught a lesson.

 

 It was hot yesterday. I'm afraid summer has finally arrived.

After they planned, Sister Catfish decided she was hungry.

She loves pancakes! Missionaries have long days.

Notice the time. That is not 9:40 a.m.

 

 The "Bug Man" came this morning.

The Sister's room was in disarray because everything

had to be pulled out of the bottom of the closet and

the beds pulled away from the walls, etc.,

so they did their studying in the living room today.

 

 

I am glad they are here.
