An Experiment

Sister O and her new companion
are making another attempt at rice.....
(their dinner appointment fell through for tonight)

Results of the experiment:
They say Minute Rice takes 8 minutes for four servings.
and it tastes like regular rice.....
They did not almost burn the house down....
so that is good. :)

LOCKED OUT

While housing the missionaries
we have had Sisters accidentally locked out of the house....
and when they misplaced their keys, they were locked out of their car....
and now we've met a new milestone.....
Today the Sisters locked themselves out of their bedroom!
As I was driving to work around noon my cell phone rang...
"Sister Whitley, is that you?"
"Yes," I replied.
(They had returned home for lunch.)
"We accidentally locked ourselves out of the bedroom."
I told them they needed something thin to stick in the hole in the doorknob.
Then I remembered we had a funky little
inside-the-house door key and I told them where it was.

That made for an interesting 2nd day on the mission for Sister H.
The Sisters said they got very hot today...
because their car thermometer said it was
109 degrees.
(It was really only 98, but the pavement gets hotter.)
They said they taught 6 lessons.
They were very tired tonight.

I asked Sister H how it was after the second day on the mission.
She said, "Better."
I asked, "Was yesterday bad?"
She replied, "No, it was just hard."

One thing I have learned from housing the missionaries
....it is not easy serving a mission.
I am thankful that the two missionaries who taught
us were not afraid of hard work, either.
It has made all the difference in my life.

It's Hot and Windy in Texas

Sister H and Sister O are getting to know each other
and off to a full day of missionary work.

Have a nice day!

The Revolving Door is Turning.....

We have four Hermanas spending the night tonight.
It is another missionary slumber party!
(Sister M, Sister K, Sister H, and Sister O)
Transfer day is tomorrow.
Sister H & Sister K are from Utah.
Sister H will be staying here. Sister O will be training her.
Sister K will go to another home.
Both of the new Sisters are straight out of the MTC.

Saying goodbye is always the hard thing.
Sister M will be transferred to Plano.
She has a sweet spirit and
she will be a fantastic missionary in her new area.
She is like one of the family and
will always be welcome in our home.
I will remember her passion for the gospel,
her excitement over the mail, and her
loving heart.
I am excited to learn more about Sister H.
Life with missionaries in the house
is never dull and never lonely.
I love The Church. I know it is true.

(Sister O says it is her father's birthday today. Happy B'day Brother O!)

Sad and Happy Daze

I returned after a two week visit to Kentucky to find
that the companionship of the twin missionary Sisters
is drawing nigh to a close. They were busy in their bedroom this
morning trying to get ready for the day, but I snagged them
for a picture right before they left ....

They told me of one family they found and were teaching
that is going to be moving to Arizona.
They are happy to be a part of the great missionary effort
that is spreading throughout the entire world.
Missionary "daze" are good days!

More Behind the Scenes

This is what Sister Missionaries look like at 8 a.m.
while eating their breakfast and studying their lessons.
It sounds quiet. No conversation...just study.
They are smiling because they are surprised to see me.
They don't see me at this time of the day very often.
Morning is for missionaries!
