Summer is Coming to a Close....

The weeks are passing quickly but it is still hot in Texas.
It is supposed to be in the 100's all week.
Sister L was studying as she ate breakfast this morning.

By 6:30 a.m. the Sisters had already started their laundry.
By 10 a.m. they had cleaned their room and
were on their way out the door....
They said they had plans for today~~
*sports at the church
*shopping at the store
*email at library
*teaching a family they have been teaching

When I got home at 4:30, this is what I found.
Sister H was busy on the couch.

Sister L was camped out in the kitchen.
Both were furiously writing letters.
Such is the life of a missionary...

Just as they were about to leave for their evening appointments
the doorbell rang. It was the mailman.
Sister H ran to answer the door....
She said, "I LOVE my mother!"
I have never served a mission, but by
observing the Sisters I have learned that
missionaries love mail and mothers.
In addition to teaching people about the church
they are learning things...
about the world, about people, and about the church.
I can see their testimonies growing each day as they serve.
They are enduring a lot of heat, a little rejection, and overall
some very happy feelings. The week has started out right.

365 Good Days

We advised the Sisters to drink lots and lots of water
during these hot summer days. Every time they come home
they put their water bottles on the counter to be recycled.
This is today's batch.....Most days there are many more,
but because today was P-day they were home more than usual.
Texas is water country!

9:15 p.m.
The Sisters are going to spend the night with
some Sisters in Irving. They will be riding with them
to a meeting held in Duncanville tomorrow. They are doing this
to save miles on their missionary car.
It will be quiet without them.

We have housed the missionaries for 365 days!
We love having the Sisters with us.
If you are ever asked to house the missionaries,
please say yes.
It is uplifting, it is fulfilling, it is interesting,
and best of all......it is a little part of helping
build the Kingdom of God.
We have gotten to know some awesome young women.
We have been blessed tenfold.

Monday Morning Pictures

These pictures were taken this morning.
The Sisters are busy cleaning their room,
and doing their laundry.
The Sisters are about to leave for the store to do some shopping.
They have a 12 noon appointment to teach someone.

I found this note on the kitchen table this morning
(the sisters were in the bedroom studying).
I am always safe with Sisters in the house!

Rain in August

This morning Sister H and Sister L
were up early and off to a missionary meeting.
It was a hot day (100 degrees)
After the meeting they changed out of their missionary clothes
and did went to do some service.
Just as they arrived back home, it started raining.
They came in the front door and said,
"We want to jump on the trampoline in the rain!"
They quickly ran outside for a 5-minute burst of jumping.
The rain was coming down at a healthy rate.
The rain felt good because they were hot.
I don't know why the raindrops don't show in the picture
but they needed a towel to dry off.
They were invigorated by that short-but-sweet jump.

The sisters ate a quick dinner here at home
(their dinner appointment had fallen through)...
They changed back into their nice missionary attire....
and they were off to their evening teaching appointments.
They were home by 9:30 p.m.
It was a good day.

New Companionship!

Sister H's new companion is Sister L (from Utah).
What a small world!
These two went to the same high school...
but Sister L graduated 3 years before Sister H.
They even had the same choir teacher!
I don't think they knew each other before their mission.

Here they are cleaning and organizing things,
getting settled and getting acquainted.
The Mission sets the companionships
so they never know how long they will be together.
So far, in our house, no two Sisters have been
companions longer than 2 or 3 months.

They had a productive first day.
Their dinner appointment cancelled so they ate with us
before going out to their appointments.
We visited during dinner.
Our new sister, Sister L, told us she loves being happy,
she loves sports and soccer....
and best of all, she said she loves this gospel!!
I know I am going to enjoy having her in my home.
It is such a blessing to house the missionaries.

The Revolving Door

This is how it looked the day before the revolving
door started turning again.....
The Sister's were frantically writing letters to people back home.

Sister O was making a healthy dinner of
chocolate chip pancakes.

This picture was taken of the Sisters
on the way out the door this morning.....

Sister O has lived with us for 6 months
and I will miss her dearly.
She is being transferred to Garland.
Her picture will remain on the wall, right where she placed it

I will always remember her cheerful attitude about
"knocking into people" as she called it....
aka: knocking on random doors.

My senses will recall
the sound of her lovely singing with the Singing Angels,
the smell of her burned rice,
the sight of her beautiful smile,
and the taste of her delicious smoothies!

She was a great trainer for Sister H.
Now she is one of the "Alpha Dogs" of the mission.

Goodbye Sister O... and good luck!
Spread the gospel and serve the Lord with all your might!
They took this picture at the church during transfers.
(I tried my best to get that last picture turned right, but it simply would not cooperate!)
